Ben's Page

www.tmbw.net
I'll start off with my nerdiest one first. This is a fan wiki site for the band "They Might Be Giants". They have been around since the early 80s, and I've been a fan since middle school. This site has been active for a number of years now, and has grown into an extremely comprehensive list of anything you could ever want to know about the band. Guitar tabs, show reviews, in depth analysis of song lyrics, promotional materials, plus many more obscure items and minutae that only die hard fans would care about are all housed and maintained here. The site has become so comprehensive that the band now promotes it themselves.

www.geocaching.com
The hub of a world wide treasure hunt, using gps technology, tupperware containers, and a lot of imagination. I found out about geocaching in 2006 when I accidently stumbled upon one while hiking in the woods. Participants hide "caches" and post coordinates along with clues to find the cache online. People can create their own profiles on the site that logs how many caches you find, and keeps track of your expeditions. I haven't been out for a geocache for a while now, but as the weather starts getting nicer I think I'm going to pick it back up.

www.radiolab.org
The blurb on their website says it best:
"Radiolab is a show about curiosity. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience."
An absolutely fantastic radio show that tackles subjects both big and small in a way that is incredibly engaging.

My Photo-a-Day project on Flickr
Back in November I decided that I would try to take a photo a day for a whole year. I'm coming up on 3 months now and still going! Not all of them are great, and they don't always get posted right away, but it's been a fun experiment. Check it out!

Kim L's comments - Ben, it was so neat to gain a window into your life outside of the course :). Thank you for sharing these links. I am really impressed by your photo-a-day project. I have always wanted to do this and I have never taken the time to. You have inspired me to try this out.

It's been a challenge some days to find the inspiration, and sometimes I just end up taking a pictures of the tv, or something laying around the house. I try to take my camera with me everywhere I go, and seeing as I'm a substitute teacher, there is usually somewhere new and interesting to explore. Having a camera built into my phone doesn't hurt either!

Ben, I find your Photo a Day project inspiring! I have a friend who has a 365 album on facebook and finds it keeps her accountable as others will let her know when she's missed a day:). Would love to try this.... this may be the inspiration I needed! - Marieke
